Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT) organized successfully the 2nd International Conference on Applied Statistics (ICAS) 2019 during December 27-29, 2019 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. The inaugural ceremony was held on Friday, December 27 and Professor Dr. Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka attended as Special Guest and opened the conference. Dr. Wendy Martinez, President-Elect of the American Statistical Association (ASA) also attended as Special Guest of the program and Professor Dr. M. Sekander Hayat Khan as the conference chair and Professor Dr. Md. Israt Rayhan, Director ISRT, University of Dhaka chaired the inaugural program. The theme of the conference was ‘Emerging challenges in a data-centric world’.
The conference had invited papers in all areas of statistics and its applications. The three-day programme consisted of 2 keynote, 4 plenary, 15 invited (70 oral presentations), 11 contributed (70 oral presentations), 3 poster (48 poster presentations) sessions featuring eminent statisticians from around the world. The keynote speakers were Dr. Wendy Martinez, President-Elect, American Statistical Association (ASA) and Director, Mathematical Statistics Research Centre, Office of Survey Methods Research, Bureau of Labor Statistics, USA and Dr. Faming Liang, Professor, Department of Statistics, Purdue University, USA. Delegates from 19 different countries attended the conference. Two pre-conference workshops were also organized on cutting-edge topics for local researchers and graduate students. There was a Springer-JSR Award competition in which the best three papers presented at the conference were recognized.
