Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni, and Friends of the Institute,
At the Senate meeting held on 29 June 2026, the proposal to rename our institute was formally approved. From now on, we will be known as the Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science (IASDS).
This is more than a change of name—it is a reflection of who we are becoming. While Applied Statistics remains the cornerstone of our identity, the addition of Data Science acknowledges the exciting directions in which our discipline is evolving and our commitment to preparing students and researchers for a world increasingly driven by data, computation, and evidence-based decision-making.
This milestone has been possible because of the collective efforts and unwavering support of our faculty members, students, alumni, officers, staff, and well-wishers over many years. On behalf of the Institute, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey.
As exciting as this moment is, it also marks the beginning of an important transition. In the coming weeks, we will be working together to update our institute’s identity across all platforms—from our website, official letterhead, and office stationery to academic documents, social media, signage, and every other place where our institute is represented. It is a substantial task, and I am confident that, with your support and cooperation, we will complete it smoothly.
More importantly, this new name reminds us that our work does not end here. It challenges us to think bigger, strengthen our academic programmes, expand our research collaborations, embrace emerging technologies, and continue nurturing graduates who can make meaningful contributions to academia, industry, government, and society.
Every new chapter brings new responsibilities, but it also brings new opportunities. I am excited about what lies ahead, and I look forward to working with all of you as we shape the future of the Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science together.
Thank you for being part of this journey, and congratulations once again to our entire IASDS family!
With warm regards,
Professor Jahida Gulshan
